About us
About us
At the edge of the Randstad and just 15 minutes by train from Amsterdam lies the picturesque city of Haarlem.
Haarlem has completed this year its 777th anniversary, like many prominent cities in the Netherlands, Haarlem’s strategic location made it a wealthy trade hub in the Medieval times. Its location also meant the city had to contend with water from the North Sea, the Ij and the Haarlem Lake. This means the city has many typically Dutch features such as, canals, bridges, and windmills.
It also had a decisive role in the struggle for Dutch independence and has boasted some impressive industries, such as textiles and beer making. By the end of the 17th century the city remarkably boasted 100 breweries! Flowers are another of Haarlem’s traditions, travellers and visitors can admire Haarlem’s vast Tulip fields by train, on foot or bike. Or alternatively wait for the flower parade (BloemenCorso), every April.
The city has also been awarded with several different prizes, it was the Gastronomical capital in 2019 and voted 3 times as the best shopping city in the Netherlands. It retains the most diverse shopping area in the country with more than 68 different kinds of shops.
